2017 Chimeda Community Paddle

Paddle with us from Wakefield to Ottawa on Canada Day.
8.45 am Departure from the park beside the Wakefield General Store
11 am Take-out in Chelsea 19 Selwyn, Chelsea
1 pm departure from Lac Leamy, Gatineau, QC
3 pm arrival Victoria Island
5 pm return from Victoria Island to Wakefield, Kitigan Zibi (or your own home)
You are responsible for your own boat, safety gear and transportation. But we can help.

There are many ways to participate
As you may know, our paddle represents the north wind as part of the Voyageur brigades society four winds descending on Ottawa this Canada Day.

- We need help moving boats and people on our journey, particularly from ch. Selwyn to Lac Leamy, and home again from Victoria Island around 5 pm.

Chimeda/We are paddling is the 2nd volunteer and youth-driven, inter-community canoe trip with youths selected from Wakefield, Chelsea and Kitigan Zibi to canoe down the Gatineau River June 28th 2, arriving and gathering at Victoria Island with other canoe brigades form the South, eats and West on canada Day. Chimeda/Wa are Paddline is reconciliation, fun, learning and water stweardship for local youth.
Kitigan Zibi to Ottawa (youth portion): June 29 to July 1
Wakefield to Ottawa (community portion): July 1

- The whole route (Wakefield to Ottawa) – you’ll need to move your canoe from Chelsea to Lac Leamy, and then back from Victoria Island (we can help, but resources are limited)
- Part of the route:
- Wakefield to Ch. Selwyn in Chelsea (8.45 to about 11 am)
- Lac Leamy to Victoria Island (1 pm to about 3 pm)
2. From the shores:
- See us off in Wakefield
- Follow us along the railway tracks in Chelsea to 10 ch. Selwyn
- Join us for cultural events, speeches and food at Victoria Island
3. Helping out
- We need help moving boats and people on our journey, particularly from ch. Selwyn to Lac Leamy, and home again from Victoria Island around 5 pm.
